⚠️ New Year Early Warning

Reader, for many people, the New Year means a new story.

It sounds nice. But beginnings are not nice.
They are hard. They take energy. They require discipline and focus.

If today you are stepping into the role of Head of Internal Audit or Audit Manager, let me say it directly:

Now it will show whether you have what it takes.

The first 3 to 6 months will decide everything.
In this period you will either deliver a result, or the company will label you as average.

And average today does not mean comfort.
Average today means you may not survive at all.

The goal is not to do ten things at once.
That is only an illusion of performance.

Choose one area.
Go deep.
Name the problem.
Deliver the solution.

Not an audit “on paper”. Not theatrical presentations.
Real help for the business.

Business understands one language – money.
So choose a topic with a clear financial effect, visible benefit, and quick payback.

At the beginning, do not play the hero.

First understand the company:
what it sells, to whom it sells, how the money flows, where the money leaks.

Only then choose the place where you will shine.

Your goal is simple:

not to be a cost
to be an investment

You were not hired by accident.
There is already a problem somewhere.
It is only waiting for someone who will take it and finish it.

Choose one priority.
Take full responsibility for it.
And deliver a result that cannot be overlooked.

For the new year, I wish you composure, a clear head, professional performance,
and the courage to bring value where the company needs it most.

A new beginning is not only for those entering internal audit. It applies to all of us. In our audit club, it is a daily struggle for survival – and for the ability to stay true to our values.

Use the Fraud Case as inspiration to choose the key topic you will deliver to your organization in January and February.

Yours Oldo

I sat in a meeting with a former colleague. He wants to build an internal audit function. And it reminded me of something important, Reader — something I promised Marian I would put into words. When I once joined a company, I was already the fifth Head of Internal Audit. Before me, they had tried everything.Big Four partners from the UK, Germany, and Poland.Big names. Big presentations. Big manuals. And still, it didn’t work. Then a 27-year-old guy walked in.Me.No name.No brand.Just one...

Ahoj Reader We’re working on our plans and goals for 2026. And this is the one idea that matters to me the most when it comes to improving audit quality. No theory. No slogans. Just something that hit me hard and changed how I look at my work and my team. So I wanted to share it with you — as I was sitting, thinking, and looking ahead to what’s next. I gave up. Not on audit. Not on the profession. Power idea: I gave up the illusion that I can handle everything alone. For a long time I...

Peaceful Advent Sunday Reader, this will be a calm Sunday read.No dashboards. No tools. Just one practical thought. Quality data is not an IT topic. It is about money, time, and decisions. One simple question to start with: How many reports in your company are still created by manually retyping numbers into Excel? Most companies work like this: the data exists in a system, someone copies it manually, a final report is created, and after some time, no one knows where the number really came...
